Syntropische Versuchsfläche "Saatsystem"

This diverse agroforestry system was established according to syntropic principles and consists of 20 individual rows spaced 6 metres apart. Three types of rows were established, focusing on apple, pear and plum trees; in addition, various berry bushes, pioneer trees and herbaceous plants were sown and planted. Particular emphasis was placed on establishing woody plants through sowing: late-successional trees such as oaks, ash, sweet chestnut and maples were established in this way. In addition, apple and pear seeds were introduced using pomace from orchard meadows, and cherry plums from local stands were sown. These sown fruit trees serve as rootstocks and are grafted in the field using chip budding. The first part of the site was established in 2020, and the agroforestry system was expanded in 2022.

Before the site was established, clover grass was sown, with the original plan being to integrate mobile chicken coops. This has not yet been implemented; instead, the growth is used as mulch for the rows of trees.

The aim of the site is to research syntropic principles at our dry location with poor soils. The aim is to determine to what extent the direct sowing of woody plants and standard fruit tree cultivation using seedlings grafted in the field can work.
