This is a community orchard in Heroldingen featuring trees ranging from very old to very young, demonstrating how traditional agroforestry is still used economically today. In addition to being grazed by sheep, the fruit is sold entirely at auction to local residents and used for fresh consumption, cider, juice, schnapps, dried fruit, and baking. Some of the produce is marketed regionally to make particularly old varieties marketable. Part of the area is incorporated into an educational trail featuring important information on traditional agroforestry, the health benefits of the fruit, and much more. Professional maintenance is generously supported by the city, as the owner, for example by arranging for the removal of prunings. In some cases, the municipal maintenance yard also replants directly. The Landscape Conservation Association supported the model early on, even before the Bavarian Orchard Pact.
