On the Meierhof Rassfeld, a 3.1 ha agroforestry system is managed, which combines short-rotation poplars (1.8 ha) with poultry ranging areas and arable grassland (1.3 ha). The plantings took place in 2019 (0.8 ha) and 2021 (1 ha) with the aim of providing natural shade for turkeys and chickens in the summer while simultaneously producing energy wood for in-house heating. The entire farm – including residential buildings, rearing stables with underfloor heating, and the slaughter operation – is heated by two central wood chip boilers (100 kW and 200 kW).
