Ackerbaum, Forschungs- und Modellprojekt der HNE Eberswalde
Schicklerstraße 5, 16225 Eberswalde, Brandenburg

In the Löwenberger Land (Brandenburg), an agroforestry model project of the University for Sustainable Development Eberswalde (Hochschule für nachhaltige Entwicklung Eberswalde - HNEE) was established on an area of approximately five hectares in the winter semester 2017/18 and has been continuously maintained and expanded since then. With the Agroforestry Systems module, an innovative teaching and learning format (Innovative Lehr- und Lernform - ILL) was created, in which different departments work together interdisciplinarily. The project is financially and ideologically supported by the university, the owner, and the lessee of the area. The area is primarily researched by HNEE students from all departments. On their area, the HNEE researchers planted rows of trees at a distance of 38 meters and a windbreak hedge. They erected raptor perches and planted several flower strips. Most recently, climate stations were installed to record the microclimate on the site. This way, it is investigated what influence the agroforestry system has, for example, on temperature and humidity on the area and how this in turn affects the growth of agricultural crops.
