Futterlaub Agroforst von Carlowitz 2024
Hendrik von Carlowitz runs an organic farm in Nohfelden-Walhausen, focusing on sheep farming; around 85 breeding ewes of the Coburger Fuchsschaf breed graze on the hilly meadows and pastures around the farm. He sells lamb meat, sheepskin, sausages, and wool products made from his own wool.
In June 2024, Lignovis GmbH planted a silvopastoral agroforestry system on 0.9 ha of permanent grassland with 2,275 poplars and willows (0.3 ha of tree area). The goal is to produce fodder leaves for the sheep flock: the shoots are either grazed directly or cut by hand with pruning shears, the leaves are fed to the animals, and the wood chips are used for beds and paths or for a brushwood hedge. The system was established as part of the FuLaWi research project and is professionally supported by the project partners (https://futterlaub.de).
