Antonihof
Designed by Triebwerk | The agroforestry area at Antonihof, a mixed-use farm in Baden-Württemberg operating according to Bioland guidelines, is planned to consist primarily of timber trees and hedges. Of the 42 hectares, 26 hectares of grassland have been planted with timber trees so far, not in an alley cropping system—as is often the case—but in a grid pattern with a tree density of approximately 30 trees per hectare. In the future, some of the hedges are intended to serve as forage hedges. In addition to adapting the farm to climate change, the focus here is on improving animal welfare through the shade provided by the trees. The farm’s cattle herd consists of the dual-purpose breeds Fleckvieh and Braunvieh, which graze these areas with daily pasture rotation and holistic pasture management. Some of the cows are not milked but are kept for cow-based calf rearing. In its farm store, the Antonihof sells its own milk, beef, and chicken, as well as eggs and products from other local producers.
