Agroforstsystem mit Walnüssen und schnellwachsenden Pappeln

An agroforestry system comprising 34 walnut trees and 175 fast-growing poplars has been established on an area of approximately 2.5 hectares.

Part of the area is already being used as a free-range area for mobile free-range poultry farming. Within the free-range area, a strip of trees with 10 walnut trees and a strip of trees with 175 poplars, planted in a double row, were established. The poplars serve as protection for the laying hens against birds of prey and provide shade in the summer.

On the remaining area, which is currently still used for crop farming, two tree strips, each with 12 walnut trees, have been planted. In the future, this area is also intended to be used as a free-range area for poultry. The trees will then serve to provide shade.

With our agroforestry system, we are essentially pursuing two goals. The trees are intended to provide shade for the poultry’s outdoor areas in the summer. In addition, we plan to sell the walnuts through our direct-to-consumer sales and use the poplars as energy wood. As a result, the outdoor areas will serve a dual purpose.
