The 3.5-meter-wide agroforestry strips are laid out as single-row, mixed strips with alternating poplars and native shrubs to distribute biodiversity across the entire area. The spacing between the trees and shrubs is 1.5 meters. The width of the field strips is 36 meters, and the headlands are 21 meters wide. A total of approximately 729 poplars and 726 native shrubs were planted. The poplars were planted in the spring of 2023, and the native shrubs in the fall of 2023. The trees and shrubs are intended to be harvested at medium rotation intervals for wood chips to power a wood chip heating system.
