The Thomas Seehaus farm is part of the SEBAS nature conservation project funded by the Federal Biodiversity Program.

A silvoarable agroforestry system combining woody plants with arable crops was established on a total area of 6.1 hectares. The project began on April 1, 2025, with the planting of hybrid poplars, followed by valuable timber trees in the fall of 2025. Agroforestry trees cover 21% of the area.

The site is characterized by dry conditions, low water retention capacity, and increased susceptibility to erosion. The farm generates its income from various branches of activity: arable farming, livestock farming, energy production, and timber production.

The tree species portfolio includes hybrid poplar, maple, chestnut, walnut, small-leaved lime, cherry, wild pear, crab apple, rowan, hazel, and European larch. In the long term, the trees are to be used for both energy wood and trunk wood. Triticale, corn, and rye are cultivated as the main crops in the system.

The agroforestry system aims to create ecological balance, reduce erosion, and contribute to climate protection and climate resilience. There is also interest in the subsequent purchase and marketing of products.
